Color OLED Technology
A color OLED works because of a negatively charged metal cathode and various transport and charged layers (shown in the diagram to the right) between this cathode and the glass of the display. The direction of the anode (top layer before the glass) and the base cathode are juxtaposed perpendicular to one another – creating one pixel wherever they intersect. These pixels that make up a color OLED are divided into red, green, and blue sub-pixels.
The controller of the display sends electric current to the pixels, exciting the layer of organic material and causing it to produce light where the current is applied. The intensity of the electric current in each of the red, green, and blue sub-pixels determine what color and gradation of light that the governing pixel outputs.
