Character LCDs / Interface to 3.6 volt MCU
« on: April 27, 2014, 10:30:56 AM »
I have an NHD-0216BZ-FL-YBW display which I want to control with a microcontroller. The microcontroller operates from 3.6 volts. I plan to ground thr R/W pin, so the display is always in Write mode. I'm concerned about the DB4 - DB7 pins; if the driver chip in the display pulls up to +5 volts, this could potentially damage the microcontroller. Is this the case?

The driver datasheet isn't very clear on this point. I can add level-shifting circuitry if needed, but would prefer not to.
