Your issue seems to be caused by some settings on your MCU, as this behavior is not reflective of a defect.  Can you try changing your pixel clock frequency to see if you see any favorable changes on the display?  Perhaps faster than what you have already tried, and also confirm this frequency with a scope.  Have you tried changing the BPP setting?  Try playing with any settings related to vertical active length/resolution as well, as it seems this fading is happening on at a portion of the display.

The NHD-2.4-240320SF-CTXI#-F1 has been discontinued, and replaced by our newer model NHD-2.4-240320CF-CTXI#-F.
Email notifications of this were sent out to customers in July.  Please note that the newer model uses the ST7789S controller.
The old model is still currently available (for a limited time), however at a MOQ of 2,000pcs.
If you still need some of the old display, take a look at  It appears they have over 1,000pcs on order currently, you may be able to procure several hundred through them.

As Saurabh has suggested, please try another 5.0" display (if you have one) to see if it is unique to the one 5.0" display you've tried.  Another thing to try would be inverting your pixel clock polarity (the 5.0" and 7.0" TFTs have opposite PCLK polarities).

A possible alternative could be to switch to the red color version, as it's luminance is not as bright as the blue one.

The backlight's LED half-life is actually 50,000hrs, or just over 5 years.  Yes, you are correct with your suggestions.  You may dim the backlight to extend the lifetime.  This can be done by either limiting the current using a resistor(s) or a current limited source, or by pulse width modulation (more common).

Can you provide some information about what happened to the display before you noticed this?  Was the display dropped?  Was it in an environment near the upper/lower temperature/humidity range as indicated in the datasheet?
This typically doesn't happen by itself, at least not when all columns were once fine.
If none of the above is true, you may contact to setup an RMA to return the display to us for analysis.

From my experience, this happens when the timing is not correct.  Can you please try to increase the delay after you set the RAM address for the first line?  I know it looks as if the delay you have is 30us, however I still think it will be beneficial to try what I have suggested to see if anything changes.
Perhaps also try increasing the delay after the controller is initialized.

I believe for this display the way the pixel data is stored in the controller's RAM will be 24bpp format, regardless of the format that is chosen for the writes.  Changing the color depth to 16bpp reduces the amount of time it takes to write an image to the display, which is its primary benefit.  However, the data is still arranged in the RAM as 24-bit, so when reading from the RAM this should be taken into consideration.

From what I have seen, this happens when the pixel clock, or dot clock, is not of the correct polarity.  Can you try changing the polarity of the pixel clock in your software and try the display again?

The controller IC on our 7.0" CTP is the FT5406.  Are you certain the pinout between your old touch panel and ours is the same?  Are you able to run an I2C scan test to see if you can get an ACK from the slave address 0x70?  Are you keeping pin 6 (/RESET) pulled HIGH?
Also, although both versions are compatible with one another, the CTP you have of ours is the old model. Attached is a picture of the current model.

The rating listed in the specification (Vih = 0.9*VDD) is confirmed to be correct.  Reliable operation can only be guaranteed if this requirement is met.
